{ Ask the Photographer: Questions and Answers }

Here I would like to provide information and take questions from anyone with a camera who wants to know why their photos are coming out blurry, correct lighting, equipment, getting your kids to cooperate for you, photoshop... anything at all.

Email your questions to:

zoeyphotography@hotmail.com. With the subject: Blog Question.

I will answer them all and post here.

Question:

Hi there. So I'm considering a spiffy speedlight for my camera and I recall you recommending that I get a softbox or diffuser for it. Which do you have?

Answer:

You can spend less money and get this one that I have and I love it. For lighting accessories you can spend a ton less. Like for instance, reflectors: they sell them for a bizillion dollars (okay, maybe not so much) but you can buy them for very cheap or even use a window shield sun protector (you know, those metallic looking ones) to bounce light or a piece of white cardboard poster board depending on your natural lighting situation.

Point being... it doesn't really matter in the diffusing department. As long as you have one swift flash.  Carry on! I used to wrap a cloth cheesecloth diaper around my flash and got great results.The only reason I got a diffuser is so people don't think I'm completely out of my mind.
